Titans Return Gnaw

Many lines of Transformers have had figures which make one want to snicker at the line’s name.
Combiner Wars had a good number of figures who didn’t combine, the Movieverse had a TON of figures whose characters never appeared in the live action movies and right now there’s Titans Return.
Of course, there are a lot of figures in Titans Return that are titans in some way or another and today’s subject is many things, but no titan.

This is Titans Return Gnaw.

In the later seasons of the Generation 1 show, Gnaw was a named but otherwise barely more than generic member of the race of savage Sharkticons.

Sharkticons”?
As in “shark”?
The absolute apex predator of the ocean virtually unchanged for millions of years?

That “shark”?

Yes, that one.

Well, kinda.
The dorsal fin and massive set of teeth really are the only shark-like characteristics.
And I guess Carnivorous Bipedal Toadticon doesn't have as much of a ring to it.
So Sharkticon it is.

Let's take a look at the robot mode first.
such an handsum boi

Now I've reviewed Legends class fig- Hold the phone!
Legends”? What happened to the Scout class?
Well, the Powers That Be (read: Hasbro brass) dictate it's Legends class now and I know better than to question it because it's basically pointless.

So: I've reviewed Legends class figures before, but never have they been this adorable.
Calling him stocky would be an understatement, most of his shapes are rounded off and his eyes are just too close together.
There is nothing about him that can even be remotely considered threatening, but he's all the cuter for it.

What you see is really what you get in this mode: his head swivels left and right, his shoulders, elbows and hips are ball-joints and the knees bend.
The bend of the knees is pretty hampered by half of the beast mode's head hanging out back there, but this does give him a ton of stability so he breaks even on that regard.

That weird prong that grows out of his elbows is actually the beast mode's front toe.

Was that a segue?

I guess, so let's mosey on over to the beast mode proper, shall we?
I mean, it's what most people get him for, anyway.

Now most of the robot mode's round shapes make sense, if only a bit, because in beast mode he's mostly round.
I'll have to add I'm impressed by the balance between animalistic and mechanical qualities and the bulging green eyes could be considered creepy on some level, but let's face it, he looks like a predatory tadpole with a mace for a tail.

Seeing as how the robot mode's arms become the legs in beast mode they have the exact same poseability and the beast mode's arms are only swiveled at the shoulder, able to move up and down.

Rawr?
RAWR!

No, his best feature has got to be his gaping maw.

It takes up a good third of his entire bulk and is capable of opening to almost 180 degrees.

A mouth too much for even Loudmouth to handle.
To legitimize his inclusion in the Titans Return line he has two pegs on the bottom of his mouth which fit into any Titan Master's feet, so they can... pilot him?

So he can eat them?

How about a fascinating combination of both.

Alright, let's wrap this one up with the final verdict: he's just precious.

He's like the Transformers equivalent of the shy and awkward chubby kid who wears spiked armbands and looks angry all the time to appear threatening and I can't help but relate.
